Sunny Malwatkar incudes a cross section of artists traversing rural backgrounds and tier two cities from across India enveloping an art history that traverses many classical academies of fine art found in Indore, Kolhapur, Ichalkaranji, Bombay and Benares. Where art scenes are painted through landscape and portraiture, where Bauhaus pedagogy is drawn in as spiritual nihilism - Abstraction, Sunny christens his exhibition as the ‘Neon Wave’. Across the hinterlands of India ‘Neon’ is a an aspiration contesting the Mofussil’s conservatism. Here they replace buntings during festivals, adorn Gods & Goddesses, cover the dust up as the youth solemnise marriages, cover political wins by shining bright with ‘Party’ colours and most importantly - Colour - is the resistance poverty holds up in the face of pretentious sophistication of an elite drowning in oligarchical kleptomania who are the dull and drab. Artists rejoicing in a the city of Bombay at the onset of Monsoon are following a long tradition of the Monsoon salon shows where the city gathered artists and art from across India to compete in skill and subject.  As  you view these paintings echoes of music from Malwa - rhyming truths in dab style ask you to shed intellectual assertions, specially those that decorate but don’t mean a thing - ring in your ears.
